About Us
Hi, my name is Rachel. I’ve lived in the LC Valley for only 2 years, but I’ve been connected to this valley my whole life. My grandparents lived here when I was growing up and I loved coming to the valley for the adventures we had outdoors. Now, as an adult, I see those adventures were rare occasions.
Most weeks, I spend 3-4 days with my niece (2) and nephew (4). I’ve realized there are limited activities to do with small children in the valley. I’ve always had a passion for children (they’re my favorite type of human!) and wanted to find a way to work with them day-to-day. In my twenties, I worked as a daycare/preschool teacher. I also worked as a substitute teacher for a year. Through these experiences, I came to appreciate the magic of watching kids learn and discover. They have a passion for discovery that has not yet been dimmed by the inevitable reality of life.
Messy Geniuses was created as a place for children of all abilities to come and create. The projects are created with no expectation of outcome. The process of making is the focus. Each activity is designed in a way that allows children to ask, “I wonder what would happen if…?” and then try it! Through this process, curiosity is naturally satisfied. My hope is to open a brick and mortar location where preschool-aged and homeschooled kids can come and explore art and science. I hope to offer classes during the school year and have summer camps for everyone throughout the summer.
Our mission is to foster a love of learning through art and exploration.
“Creativity is seeing what others see and thinking what no one else ever thought.”
